Books I Pretend I Have Read

Ok confession time. There are probably five books I have nodded along about in conversation that I have absolutely not read. Not lied exactly. Just... didnt correct anybody.

I think it happens because someone says the title with such certainty that saying no feels like admitting something. So you make a face like yes, interesting book, and move on.

And it was fine? Not life changing, not bad. Which was almost annoying. I had built it up as this thing I was missing out on and it was just a decent book.

Made me think most of the pressure around reading isnt about the books at all, its about not wanting to look like you missed something. Which is a dumb reason to read anything.
